Newtown Action Alliance, a national grassroots organization formed after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, endorsed Tom Malinowski for Congress in his race for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.
In a statement released by the organization, Po Murray, Chairwoman of Newtown Action Alliance said, “It’s simple! Weapons of war do not belong in the hands of civilians and Congress must pass a federal ban on assault weapons to protect our children, families, and communities. Those living in Newtown know firsthand that one assault weapon can devastate multiple families and an entire community in a matter of minutes. Polls demonstrate that 67% of Americans support a ban on assault weapons and it’s time for Americans to elect Congressional representatives who will listen.”
“I am humbled to receive the support of the Newtown Action Alliance, and I look forward to working together to pass common sense gun violence prevention measures,” Malinowski said. “In New Jersey, we have an assault weapon ban that works, and it’s time to reinstate the nationwide ban that was proven to save lives.”
Tom is a Moms Demand Action “Gun Sense Candidate” and as a former National Security Council adviser, and Assistant Secretary of State, Tom joined fellow National Security leaders in signing an open letter calling for an end to the use of weapons of war on our streets. On March 24 he traveled to Washington DC with student groups from the 7th district to demand our Congressional representatives follow New Jersey’s lead and enact meaningful reforms to address gun violence.
