(Bridgewater, NJ) — The transportation division of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers endorsed Congressman Tom Malinowski in his bid for a second term. SMART has 203,000 members nationally, working on railroads and airways, driving buses and staffing the public transportation that bring New Jersey commuters to work every day.
“The SMART Transportation Division stands fully behind Congressman Malinowski,” said Ron Sabol, the New Jersey Legislative Director for the SMART Transportation Division. “Since day one he has stood behind our workers while fighting to ensure New Jersey receives necessary funding for our state’s infrastructure.
“I am grateful to have the support of SMART,” said Congressman Malinowski. “As we reopen our economy, investing in our infrastructure is critical to creating jobs and ensuring a safe and reliable commute to New York. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together on the first stage of the Gateway Project and the Portal North Bridge, and won’t rest until commuters have the 21st century infrastructure they deserve.”
Congressman Malinowski has been a strong advocate for New Jersey in the 116th Congress. His bill to make it easier for New Jersey to receive federal loans for major construction projects was adopted in the FY2019 and 2020 budgets, and several of his initiatives were included in the recently-passed INVEST in America Act. Under his stringent oversight, the Portal North Bridge, the first part of the Gateway project, has advanced to the engineering phase, the final step of the Capitol Investment Grant program. He has been a leader in the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in ensuring that our freight and passenger railways operate safely for transportation workers and for the public.
